Many bats have inner sleeves that are part of the multi wall construction. These sleeves are removable on some bats. In many cases the outer shell of the bats are the same from bat to bat. It is the inner sleeve material and thickness that actually determines the performance and durability characteristics of the bat. Some bats have sleeves that are interchangeable as the shell and sleeves are the same size as far as how they fit together.
What we have done is taken the sleeve from an Ultra 2 bat and inserted it into the shell of a Miken Freak FX. This is basically like having a Dodge Neon with a Viper engine in it. The performance and durability on the Recoil with the Ultra 2 sleeve is identical to that of the Ultra 2. As you probably know the Ultra 2 bats have the reputation of being the hottest bats ever made. The durability on them is not great however as is true with most extremely hot bats so take that into consideration if you are a big power hitter or are playing in cold weather. Ultras were created for home run derbies with limited use and for seniors. They aren't a bat that you would want to hit everyday in batting practice obviously.
One of the issues with doing this is that we basically are destroying an Ultra 2 in the process so we have the cost of two bats to make one. Additional Pictures
